Expectations

MBA students on the Fund’s Student Advisory Board execute the Wolverine Venture Fund’s deal evaluation, due diligence, and track the portfolio. The Fund meets weekly and conducts due diligence all year round. Students meet with the Advisory Board of venture capitalists and entrepreneurs on a semi-annual basis.

First-year MBA participants are selected in the fall by existing student members of the Fund and the managing director. The application process begins in September and consists of a written personal statement and resume, followed by interviews. The Fund encourages students with diverse backgrounds to apply, including those with technical, marketing, science, legal, or start-up experience. Individuals who are selected and successfully participate on the Fund receive a grade and course credit.

Students who demonstrate exemplary leadership amongst their colleagues will be selected to serve in operational roles for their terminal year with the Fund. These positions are not symbolic, but require students to lead transactions diligence, deal sourcing, pipeline reporting, marketing, recruiting and day-to-day operations.

Application Process

Each year, the Wolverine Venture Fund accepts approximately 12-15 first year MBA’s to serve on the Fund’s Student Advisory Board. The application for the 2016 is available here until 9/11/16 11:59pm. For questions on the Fund or the application, please contact wvfcontact@umich.edu for more information.
